2021 – The first remote offering of the Design and Innovation course introduced engineering design and innovation principles to first year engineering students.

As a result of the shifting global health climate during 2020 and 2021, this course was offered not in typical sequence during January 2021 but instead in summer 2021. It was open to students both on-campus as well as those studying remotely. The course was structured to attempt to level the playing field across geographies; there were no in-person meetings, and assignments were crafted to make use of mostly virtual tools and software such that students off-campus had every chance to be as fully engaged as students on campus. A total of 91 students (67 first-years, 8 sophomores, 16 juniors, 1 senior) completed the 3-week course (May 23, 2021 to June 10, 2021). The course was taught by Matthew Karau with the assistance of Prince Annor, Aayush Deo, Prajna Soni, Nishant Aswani, and Utku Unlu.
