LogInvent is a novel inventory management system currently being tested inside NYU Abu Dhabi Engineering Design Studio.
Managing thousands of components in an open lab setting is nearly impossible. With LogInvent, the job is shared among the many users of a space. Bins are tagged, and with the app and online database, users are able to snap photos of the state of the bins, flag for review, reorder, or mark as in stock. By this method, inventory information is continuously updated, and users, as well as admins, have a visual on what the contents of storage containers looks like. Using mobile phones as the inventory tool moves away from the need for speicalized hardware and clunky software toolchains.
The project remains in testing at the Engineering Design Studio with plans to release a stable version by end of 2021.
